Palestinian American Novelist ~ Poet ~ Civil Rights Activist

Susan Abulhawa is a novelist, essayist, and poet. Her debut novel, “Mornings in Jenin” (Bloomsbury, 2010), was an international bestseller, received critical acclaim and was translated into 28 languages.  The rights to her second novel, “The Blue Between Sky And Water” (Bloomsbury, 2015) was sold in 19 languages before it was published in the English original.  The combined commercial and cultural reach of these two novels has made Susan Abulhawa a widely read Palestinian author.

Abulhawa published a poetry collection entitled “My Voice Sought The Wind” (Just World Books, 2012) and contributed to numerous anthologies.  She also writes on a regular basis for online media outlets, such as Al Jazeera English and Middle East Monitor.

In 2001, Susan Abulhawa founded Playgrounds For Palestine (www.playgroundsforpalestine.org), a non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to upholding the right to play for Palestinian children.  To date, they have built well over 32 playgrounds in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria and sponsored numerous childhood development programs.
